Revelations

This is too cool. So, I was sitting around in the laundrymat waiting on washers to be freed up, and I had my sketch pad with me. I doodled a little on one of the characters for Cheezypoofs with a pencil. I decided it sucked and grabbed a pen instead.

I so need a better pencil to draw with! I can no longer draw with .5 lead mechanical pencils. That's the block I've been having! It's taken me almost 3 months of hating my sketches to figure that out..... :p~

I can be such a dork sometimes. ;)

NEwayz, I need to redo the sketch, but once I do get it scanned in, I'll post. No, really, I'll post one this time. :)

Deviations...

Work sucks, so I'm playing instead:

Your Seduction Style: The Natural

You don't really try to seduce people... it just seems to happen. Fun loving and free spirited, you bring out the inner child in people. You are spontaneous, sincere, and unpretentious - a hard combo to find! People drop their guard around you, and find themselves falling fast.

Oh, so much fun!

Dude, this past weekend has been the most relaxing, the most entertaning, and the most amount of fun I have had in soooo long! I got to see old friends and even make a few new ones (I hope, at least). All I have to say is, thanks guys... I needed that. Oh, and:

"Wingman. You now owe me."
"Yah, I do, don't I?"

"Ya'll from around here?"
"Yes sir."
"Oh. Sorry to interrupt your skinny dippin'. Ya'll have a good night!"

"Dude, you're slurring your words."
"Iah noh." *grin*

Otherness...

I've switched from using ecto to BloGTK. Mainly, since I run only Linux at home, and I originally tried ecto out at work.

I did finally manage to get around to doing some rough sketches last weekend of the characters for the web comic I mentioned in my last post. I decided on a title, too: "Cheezypoofs". Don't ask... just go with it. ;) I'm going to try something really different with this that you don't see too many (if any) artists doing. I've been on this huge "free software foundation" kick for about 6 months now. I've decided I'm going to "power" this comic using only free tools. For those of you non-techies, here's an example of what I mean: For all general purposes, I chose Fedora Linux as my OS at home. Mostly because I've just been "promoted" (I guess you could say) to restructure our Linux support at work (we just recently entered into a license agreement for Red Hat Enterprise Linux). In doing so, I'm using all "free" software. Most artists mention using Adobe or similar licensed applications. I'm going to look into using GIMP and things along that line. Needless to say, I haven't had my scanner hooked up in years, so I'll need to get my hardware set up b4 I can start editing the images on the 'puter. Like I said, the sketches were really rough, so I probably won't be scanning those in newayz.

Otherness... after having rented the game almost 3 weeks ago (I love the Blockbuster Game Rental Pass), I finally got around to playing "Advent Rising". I was a little disappointed with the graphics, but I'm impressed. Cool game! I'm definitely a video game kid at heart (having grown up in the Atari/Nintendo era), so I try keep up with the game industry as best I can. This is one that slipped under the radar on me. I read an IGN review on it this afternoon, and apparently, it's was a hot topic about a year ago. I will have to agree with this note: "Players who are used to constantly maneuvering the camera will find this system to be awkward at first, but as you learn to work with the targeting system it opens up a world of possibilities." I still haven't gotten used to the camera targeting control (too many hours playing Halo), but it is different, and I am enjoying it. There haven't been too many games lately that keep me that interested. Guess I'm finally growing up. :( That or I'm just too much of a seasoned gamer to like simple games.

Well, that's about it. I haven't had any time this week to work on more drawings (sucks having a full-time job), and I think tonight I'm going to either the bachelor or bachelorette party (friends of my sister getting married). Maybe I'll have time tomorrow. I definitely need to get the character designs down. I'm just as anxious as you to see what they'll look like. :/

Soul Searching

Yeah, I just really don't feel like working today. I've got about another hour before I have to meet with a prof. to fix his Outlook issues. I haven't done much of anything other than read email all morning, so far.

NEWayz....

So something sparked in me today that seems to have sent me on sort of a soul searching mission, again. Anyone who knows me knows I'm so bored with my job, and I'm getting to the point of hating it... again. I've got a feeling of what triggered this soul searching is the course of events from the last 2 days (mostly yesterday).

Background:
I've been throwing around the idea of finally putting together a web comic. Now, I'm no writer, and my artistic abilities are limited, at best. However, being you are your own worst critic, most of my friends tell me I have a talent for drawing. Ideas have been popping into my head for about the last 6 months for story lines, etc., but I've never written them down. The ideas usually come just after I've crawled into bed or on the short rail trip home from work. So far, I've titled it, written the intro, have a general idea of the characters, and stick-figured the panels (about 4 or 5). I haven't done any rough sketching, yet, but I'll probably start soon. I'm starting to push myself more to follow through with this... mostly to keep my sanity. I work with computers all day long; then, I go home and mess around with them some more. I'm to the point I'm almost burnt out. ...Who am I kidding, I am burnt out. ;)

Cause:
Yesterday, my long time post-high school friend got stranded in Atlanta because of flight problems and weather. Up until about a year ago, we hadn't talked for almost 10 years. These days, we talk occasionally, but I have my life, he has his. So, he was headed out to Vegas to Showcase his newly found inspiration to play and write again (music) and meet with a couple of record companies. He's finally following his dream of sharing his music (quick plug, check out http://www.myspace.com/justnoah). I took the day off work, and we hung out (which we haven't had the time to do in years). Finally seeing his change in personality (which I already knew about) and his enthusiasm about his music (which I haven't seen in a long time) got me thinking. Maybe I really do need to follow through with this comic... not for recognition, or for stature, or to compete with the other ones I read religiously, but just for me. I'm just sticking out my job because it pays the bills. I want something new. Maybe this is that something new that I need.

Effect:
We'll see. Do I really follow through, or do I just half-a$$ it like I've done most everything in my personal life lately? I'll update here as it progresses.
